Schoolteacher Suspended For ‘Beating’ Students In Odisha’s Bhadrak

Bhadrak: A schoolteacher was suspended from service on Sunday for allegedly meting out physical punishment to students in Odisha’s Bhadrak district.

According to sources, the incident took place in Sunamuhi Government Upper Primary School under Basudevpur block on Saturday. While teaching the students of Class VIII of the school, Mathematics teacher Kalpatharu Mallick asked them some questions.

As the students could not answer the questions, an infuriated Mallick beat them up. At least 14 students, who were injured in the beating, were admitted to Community Health Centre (CHC) at Basudevpur. Agitated over the incident, the parents of the students went to the school and created ruckus.

The teacher admitted to have beaten the students for creating nuisance in the class without studying. But he refuted the allegation that they sustained injuries for the beating.

On coming to know about the incident, the district administration suspended Mallick. While no police complaint has been filed in this connection, police have detained the teacher, the sources said.
