Kendrapada: A physical education teacher of a government-run high school under Mahakalapada block in Odisha’s Kendrapada district was suspended on Thursday for allegedly sending lewd messages to a Class IX student.
According to sources, the girl’s mother had lodged a complaint against the teacher after coming to know about the obscene messages when she enquired about her daughter’s reluctance to attend school. She alleged that he sent messages saying ‘I love you’ to her 15-year-old daughter on her mobile phone.
“We investigated the matter and came to know that the teacher sent her obscene messages and accordingly, he was suspended,” block development officer Tanmaya Kumar Behera was quoted as saying.
The accused teacher has been identified as Bibhuti Bhusan Swain.
Police also filed a case against the teacher after students and their parents on Wednesday staged a demonstration in front of the school, demanding his arrest. A case under section 506 of the IPC (Indian Penal Code), section 61 of Information Technology Act 200 and section 12 of POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act) Act, 2012, has been registered against Swain, Mahakalapada police station IIC Maheswar Sethi said, adding that he is absconding and efforts are on to nab him.
