Bhawanipatna: Kalahandi Collector Gavali Parag Harshad has suspended a primary schoolteacher for allegedly spreading misinformation about the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Bindu Mahanand, who was posted at Dudkela primary school under Golamunda block in the district, was arrested on March 15 in this connection.
He had sent a message on WhatsApp, claiming that a coronavirus-infected man, who had returned from Bengaluru, was home quarantined at Khaliakani village in Golamunda block.
During an inquiry in the village, police and block officials found the claim to be false and Mahanand was arrested after a case was registered against him.
Under the COVID-19 Odisha Regulations, 2020, the state government has warned people of stern action if found spreading rumours about the disease.
