Bhubaneswar: The residents of Bhubaneswar will be able to enjoy seamless connectivity from September this year.
This was revealed at a recent meeting presided over by Bhubaneswar Smart City Ltd (BSCL) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sanjay Singh.
Reviewing the status of the BSCL’s Fibre Optic-based communication network under the Smart Solution Project, Singh directed the officials of the Honeywell Automation Private Ltd (HPOL) to complete the laying of the underground cables by August 31.
BSCL has assigned the project work to the HOPL at an estimated cost of Rs 616 crore. Under the agreement, the company is scheduled to complete the project in two years and look after the maintenance for seven years.
Under the project, underground optical fibre cables will be laid along 680-km in the city, of which 550-km has been completed so far. The network has been successfully tested and live for 501 km.
With the completion of the project, the residents of Bhubaneswar will able to avail 30 minutes of free Wi-Fi service.
According to official sources, the optical fibre communication network will provide seamless and robust connectivity to all on-field smart elements such as CCTV cameras, Public address system (PAS), dynamic message signboard (DMS), traffic violation detection system( TVDS) and wi-fi access points.
“The footage of CCTV cameras in the city will be linked through optic fibre cable and sent to the operation centre. The information will then be used to alert people during emergency situations. It also will help the Commissionerate Police to penalise traffic violators,” the sources said
The cores of fibre will also be used for monetization and revenue generation by BSCL.
