London: Sir Sean Connery has died at the age of 90.
Most loved all around the world for his portrayal of James Bond, the Scottish actor appeared in seven of the spy thrillers.
His family informed that Connery died overnight in his sleep, while in the Bahamas. It is understood he had been unwell for some time, reports BBC.
In a celebrated acting career spanning over five decades, Connery won several coveted awards, including an Oscar, two Bafta and three Golden Globes.
But his popularity as 007 in the long-running Bond franchise was absolutely unmatched.
Chosen to play the Ian Fleming-created the fictional character of an intelligence officer in the Secret Intelligence Service – Connery appeared in the first film of the Bond franchise, Dr No, in 1962.
Connery’s other successful films included The Hunt for Red October, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and The Rock.
He won an Oscar in 1988, for the best supporting actor’s role as an Irish cop in The Untouchables. Connery was knighted by the Queen at Holyrood Palace in 2000.
