Bhubaneswar: A Special CBI Judge Court on Thursday rejected the bail petition of BJD MLA Pravat Biswal for his complicity in the multi-crore Seashore chit fund scam.
The court after going through the CBI charge-sheet and hearing both parties rejected the bail petition of Biswal.
The sitting Cuttack-Choudwar MLA had sought bail in January this year after the central investigating agency filed its second charge-sheet against five persons including him and his wife Laxmi Bilasini, former Zilla Parishad president of Cuttack.
In the charge-sheet, the CBI had stated that Biswal had a land deal with Seashore CMD Prashant Dash and availed financial benefit to the tune of Rs 25 lakh from the Seashore Group.
Apart from this, a case under section 420, 120 (B) of IPC has been registered against all the five accused including OAS officer Pradeep Hota while names of 60 persons have been mentioned as witnesses in the case.
The CBI had arrested Biswal on September 19 last year.
The CBI, in course of investigation, had come to know about the land deal between Laxmi Bilasini and Dash for a land measuring 34 decimal at Benapur Mouza in Jajpur district. While Dash had paid Rs 25 lakh for the land in a cheque in April 2012, the remaining amount was to be paid after registration of the said land. But Dash later cancelled the deal and wanted his money back to which the couple had claimed that they had paid the amount.
