Cuttack: Rev. Bishop Dhirendra Kumar Mohanty passed away following a cardiac arrest at his Cuttack residence on Thursday morning. He was 80.
Mohanty was the second Bishop of Cuttack Diocese and one of the few from Odisha to have made it to the higher echelons of the Christian priest hierarchy. He also held the position of moderator at the Delhi headquarters of the Church of North India from 1996 to 1998.
A fluent speaker of the Kui language, he was known for undertaking many development works for the poor and needy students in the tribal-dominated areas of the state.
An eminent author of Christian literature in both Odia and English, the late Bishop was also one of the founder members of New Stewart School in Cuttack.
He earned respect from all quarters for his friendly and helpful personality as well as for excellent oratory skills.
