Sambalpur: The Odisha government has decided to set up the second COVID hospital on the premises of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla.
Briefing the media after a review meeting with the VIMSAR authorities in presence of Additional Chief Secretary, Health Pradipa Mohapatra, DMET CBK Mohanty and Director, Public Health Niranjan Mishra, Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra on Wednesday said that the second COVID hospital in the newly-constructed medicine ward will be ready in 10 days. It will have 250 general beds and 50 ICU beds.
He further said that the bed strength of the first COVID Hospital at VIMSAR will be increased from 150 to 250.
The decision to go for a second COVID hospital in Burla came in the wake of the alarming rise in COVID-19 cases in Sundargarh, Bargarh, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Jharsuguda and Balangir districts, bordering Chhattisgarh.
With daily caseload spiralling beyond 11,000 in Chhattisgarh, the border areas of these districts in western Odisha have already been sealed.
