Second Phase Of Uber Layoffs: 3,000 More Jobs To Be Cut

Having shown the door to 3,700 staffers on Zoom last week, Uber is all set to lay off another 3,000 jobs and close 45 of its offices globally. This is the second round of layoffs by Uber Technologies Inc, the  San Francisco-based ride-hailing company. It will cut a total of 6,700 jobs.

Chief Executive Officer, Dara Khosrowshahi told Reuters, that the company plans to reduce investments in several “non-core projects”  and  instead concentrate on its core businesses of ride-hailing and food delivery.

Uber is also looking at strategic alternatives for Uber Works, a platform Uber launched in October to help companies fill staffing gaps with temporary workers during peak demand.

Over the next 12 months, it will begin the process of moving its Asia-Pacific headquarters out of Singapore to a new location “in a market where we operate our services,” according to the company.

The firm will reduce its costs by over $1 billion a year by these actions, the company said.

Shares in Uber rose 8 percent to $35.27 on the news.
