Keonjhar: Balabhadra Jena, a second-year student of Fakirpur City School under Anandpur police station limits in Keonjhar district, was arrested on Monday for allegedly stabbing his classmate, a girl, inside the classroom.
The duo hails from Jajpur district. The girl said that Balabhadra had proposed to her a few times in the past but she had always declined.
According to police sources, the two had an altercation inside the classroom on Monday, after which Balabhadra attacked her with a knife and inflicted deep injuries on her right leg and left hand. As she screamed for help, teachers and students rushed to the spot. But the accused shut himself inside the classroom.
On being informed, Anandpur police rushed to the school and managed to get Balabhadra out of the classroom. He was detained for questioning and later arrested.
The critically injured girl was admitted to the Community Health Centre at Anandpur and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
