Paradip: Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC have been imposed since Monday midnight at Essar Steel Plant by Jagatsinghpur district administration here following a dispute between the members of two labour unions.
According to information, one of the labour unions proposed a protest this morning demanding immediate closure of the plant after the authorities granted recognition to another union.
Apprehending escalation of tension during the protest, they appealed to the district administration to impose Section 144 stating apprehending breach of law and order.
Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place with deployment of one platoon of police force near the plant premises to thwart any untoward incident.
Meanwhile, the district administration has called for a meeting with the plant authorities and the agitators to discuss their issues and sort out the same.
