Bhadrak: The Bhadrak district administration on Tuesday rescinded the prohibitory orders that were clamped in the town under Section 144 of CrPC apprehending breach of peace during Ram Navami celebrations.
“After reviewing the current law and order situation in the town, Section 144 has been revoked. Proper police arrangement was made and every possible step was taken to prevent any untoward incident during the festival,” a district officerinformed.
Internet services were restored in the town on Monday two days after suspension of the facility to prevent misuse of social media in creating communal stress during Ram Navami celebrations.
The Ram Navami celebration was held peacefully. A procession of over 70 idols was taken out from Nehru Stadium to Gandhi Ground here amid tight security.
Bhadrak had witnessed riots during Ram Navami celebrations in 1991. Similar incident was also reported in the district headquarter town last year following certain objectionable postings relating to Hindu deities on social media.
Apprehending similar trouble, the administration had banned the celebration last year. However, the Orissa High Court ordered the district administration to withdraw the ban imposed under Section 144 of CrPC.
