Balangir: Vigilance officials on Thursday arrested section officer in a tehsil office in the district on charge of taking bribe.
Following a complaint that Kishore Kharsel, section officer, Agalpur tehsil was demanding a bribe of Rs 35,000 for releasing his seized tractor and not imposing any fine on the complainant, the Vigilance laid a trap. As per the plan, the complainant went to give the bribe to Kharsel in his office room at Agalpur.
The Vigilance sleuths caught the section officer accepting the bribe from the complainant red-handed and recovered the amount from him. Following this, the Vigilance conducted search on the government quarters of Kharsel at Revenue Colony, Hatisalpada in Balangir town.
Kharsel has been arrested and will be forwarded to court. Sambalpur Vigilance has filed a case under Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 in this connection and further investigation is on.
