Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Thursday apprehended Section Officer at Office of Chief Engineer, Minor Irrigation, Bhubaneswar, Subhakanta Swain while allegedly accepting Rs 8,000 bribe.
According to a release, Swain had demanded the illegal gratification from a complainant to process his brother’s application for contractor licence. The entire bribe money was recovered from him and seized.
Another Rs 14,990 was recovered from office drawer while he was found carrying Rs 5,500.
While a case under Section 7 of Prevent of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, has been registered, simultaneous searches are on at three locations linked to the accused to ascertain whether he has accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
