Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police have made adequate security arrangements in the Odisha capital to contain criminal activities and ensure strict adherence to COVID guidelines during Dhanteras and Diwali.
“Police forces have been deployed near jewellery stores. We held a meeting with the jewellers to ensure that they obey the COVID guidelines. The store will be shut if violations like crowding sans social distancing are noticed,” Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Dash told the media.
Regarding the ban on firecrackers, the DCP said that checkings are being conducted along with public awareness. “More than two trucks of firecrackers have been seized. We received information about firecrackers being stored in two godowns in Jatani area this morning. Licences are being verified,” he said.
Police patrolling will be intensified and more police personnel and PCR vans will be pressed into service during this period.
A list of the habitual offenders and anti-socials has also been prepared and they are being rounded up. The history-sheeters will be booked under the National Security Act (NSA) or face police action like ‘tadipar’ (banished), sources said.
