Jharsuguda: In a major lapse in security measures, a drone reportedly fell near Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi when he was on a visit to Jharsuguda recently.
The incident, which reportedly took place on on January 2, came to light after visuals surfaced on social media on Sunday. A viral video shows a drone crashing near the Chief Minister as he was proceeding to a temple.
Majhi was about to enter the Jhadaeshwar Temple in Purunabasti area of the city when the unidentified drone suddenly fell near him. The sudden crash left the Chief Minister and others accompanying him startled. Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari was among those present near the CM.
Security personnel, including the CM’s Personal Security Officer and local police, swiftly removed the drone.
Preliminary reports indicated that the drone was meant for photography purpose and to capture pictures. However, the circumstances under which it fell so close to the Chief Minister are yet to be ascertained.
“As per preliminary investigation, the drone was deployed by the district administration to take photographs and record video of the chief minister and other dignitaries during the visit. Due to some technical glitches, it accidentally fell near to the CM,” a police officer was quoting as saying.
Sources said an investigation is currently in progress to determine the reason behind the incident.
