Bhubaneswar: The security division of the Commissionerate of Police has become operational in Odisha’s twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
Inaugurating the division on Monday, Police Commissioner Soumendra Priyadarshi said it has become operational after the state government approved the proposal on streamlining the security arrangement for VIPs and VVIPs in the twin cities.
He said the special security battalion under the Commissionerate of Police will work in the division like the security wing under the Crime Branch. Besides, the division will monitor the emergency response incidents.
The division, which will operate under a commandant, will also have link with Intelligence wing to ensure security to the VIPs during their movement.
Stating that Bhubaneswar has emerged as the sports capital of the country, Priyadarshi said many VIPs and VVIPs are landing in the capital city almost everyday. The division will function as a controlling centre for their movement and security, he added.
He further said the division will look after the security of the international leaders coming to Bhubaneswar to attend G20 conferences. A high-level meeting in this regard has already been held in this regard, he added.
