Nuapada: Security forces have busted a Maoist camp and seized arms and ammunition following an encounter in a forest in Odisha’s Nuapada district.
Speaking to media persons on Tuesday, Rayagada district SP Pratyush Diwakar said following intelligence reports, a joint team comprising the personnel of SOG, DVF and CRPF carried out an operation in Patadhara reserve forest under Boden police limits on Sunday.
“During the operation, the Maoists opened fire and the security forces retaliated. Following the exchange of fire, the Maoists escaped into deep forest. Later in the day, while the security forces were carrying out combing operation, the Maoists again opened fire and an exchange of fire ensued for around 5 minutes. This time also the Left wing extremists managed to escape,” the SP said.
“According to our intelligence, a Maoist team led by Murali and Jayaram is moving in the reserve forest are on the border with Chhattisgarh. We have intensified the combing operation to nab them,” he added.
Following the second encounter, the security forces recovered some arms and ammunition and camp materials from the site. Those included one improvised explosive device (IED), 3 detonators, Maoist uniforms, medicines and other materials.
