Security forces, Maoists exchange fire in Gandhamardhan hills

Balangir: A day before Independence Day, security forces engaged Maoists in a gunfight at Gandhamardhan hills near Khaprakhol in Balangir district on Monday.
According to reports, CRPF and SOG jawans had launched combing operations in Gandhamardhan hills the previous night. “Around 9.30 am this morning, the rebels opened fire on security personnel, who retaliated,” said SP Balangir K Siva Subramani.
There was no report of any casualty in the exchange of fire so far, he added.
Meanwhile, the Maoists have put up posters at a ghat in Chandahandi near Umerkote of Nabarangpur district, urging people to observe Tuesday as black day.
