Bhubaneswar: The Infocity Police late on Saturday evening, arrested a 64-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting a female stray dog near an apartment block close to Infocity, Bhubaneswar. He was caught red-handed by some security guards and some residents.
The accused, Jaydev Parida, a native of Jatani, works as a security guard with a private security company.
A resident of the complex informed the animal NGO Animal Welfare Trust Ekamra. Members of the NGO immediately called the police and registered a complaint against him. He was taken to the Infocity police station and a case was registered under Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) (for carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man, woman or animal).
“We were shocked to see such a horrible act, so we informed the NGO,” the resident said.
A few cases of extreme cruelty to animals have come to light in the state capital in the past one year. However, this is the first-ever case registered. It once again highlights the need for stronger Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act, 1960, said Purabi Patra, founder of Animal Welfare Trust.
