Sambalpur: Realising that the present security in and around the Hirakud Dam, the longest earthen dam in India, is not enough, the Odisha government has decided to further strengthen the security network for the dam.
As per the decision taken at a recent high level meeting, the state government will deploy 200 Odisha Industrial Security Force (OISF) personnel in and around the dam in place of the Odisha Police personnel.
While 100 OISF personnel comprising 75 men and 25 women are deployed at present, another 100 OISF personnel would be deployed in and around the dam from April 1.
The OISF personnel will keep a round-the-clock watch on the dam and its periphery to ward off any untoward incident.
There was a long-standing demand by the locals residing in the dam periphery to further tighten the security.
