Rayagada: Security forces busted a Maoist camp running inside Niyamgiri hill forest in Rayagada district, police said on Monday. A huge cache of ammunition and other materials were seized during the raid which followed a previous encounter on Sunday night.
Rayagada SP Saravana Vivek M said said security forces had launched a combing operation in the forest following a tip-off on Sunday evening. During the search operation, the Maoists fired at the security personnel who retaliated likewise. After a heavy exchange of fire, the Maoists detonated two IED explosives and fled the area.
“Following the blast, the security personnel returned to their base camp in the night and resumed the search operation this morning. They have seized several Maoist articles and a huge cache of ammunition from a camp in the forest,” the SP added.
He stated that no security personnel was injured in the IED blasts and the combing operation has been intensified.
In another encounter in the same district, Maoists had exchanged fire with security personnel inside Dhamanapanga forest in Muniguda area. However, there was no report of any casualty.
