Security Staff Halt Work At Capital Hospital In Bhubaneswar Against Attack Over Toddler’s Death

Bhubaneswar: Tension prevailed at Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday as security guards deployed at the medical facility staged a protest a day after they were attacked during violence over the death of a toddler.

Sources said the security guards staged a demonstration near the entry gate of the hospital demanding adequate protection from any form of mob violence.

Noting that a guard sustained injuries in the incident while trying to control the angry protestors, they said the authorities must put in place a proper mechanism for their safety and security.

It may be noted that Capital Hospital witnessed unruly scenes on Monday after the death of a child as his parents alleged medical negligence and faulty medication. The situation escalated when security personnel were attacked when they tried to assuage the angry family members.

The protestors reportedly went berserk and beat up the security guards causing grievous injury to one.

Upset over the incident, all security personnel deployed at the hospital expressed their resentment and held a cease-work protest to demand safety protocols while performing their duties.

Meanwhile, hospital activities and medical services were disrupted. Patients and attendants too were impacted as the strike slowed down seamless entry and exit from the facility.
