Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has warned those who are celebrating Pakistan’s victory over India in the T20 World Cup, saying that they will face sedition charges.

The CM made the remarks in an interview with a Hindi publication, which was shared by the official Twitter handle of his office.

On Wednesday, three engineering students from Kashmir were arrested in Agra for raising anti-national slogans following Pakistan’s 10-wicket win in Dubai on Sunday.

The three students were rusticated by Raja Balwant Singh Engineering Technical College, which announced that the institute will be shut down until action is taken against those who forcibly entered the premises demanding arrest of the Kashmiri students.

The trio was booked under IPC Sections 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups) and 505 (1)(B) (with intent to cause, or which is likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public, or to any section of the public), and 66-F of the Information Technology Act for allegedly sending WhatsApp messages “against the country” after the match.

The UP police have so far booked seven persons for raising pro-Pak slogans or celebrating Pakistan’s win over India.

It may be recalled that the Supreme Court observed a few months ago that sedition law is a colonial law and asked whether it was still needed in India.
