Baripada: A self-proclaimed godman was on Tuesday arrested for allegedly molesting a differently-abled minor girl in Badasahi area of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.

The incident, which occurred on January 20, came to light after the girl was admitted to Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College & Hospital in Baripada.

According to reports, the girl was alone at home when the godman, Jatharam Murmu alias Jatha Baba, barged in and molested her. Her parents had gone to attend Magha Puja in their village.

Village heads tried to hush up the matter by offering Rs 90,000 to her family. However, when Mayurbhanj SP Rishikesh D Khilari learnt about the incident, he ordered a probe by Baripada Town Police and Murmu was arrested.
