Jajpur: Body of a 17-year-old college girl, who accidentally slipped into Tantighai river in Jajpur district and got washed away while clicking selfies on Sunday afternoon, was fished out from under a bridge on Tuesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Saita Begam of Erabank village.
According to sources, Shaista along with her cousin sister Nazrin Begum (19) had gone to Tantighai ghat to take bath. The duo fell into the river and was carried away by strong current while clicking pictures with a mobile phone. Some locals jumped into the water and managed to rescue Nazrin. Shaista, however, remained untraceable despite a search operation launched by fire services personnel.
It was the people of Erada who spotted the body floating on water under a bridge in their village this morning and immediately informed the police, which reached the spot along with an Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) team. Following which, the body was fished out from the river.
The family members of the deceased were later informed and they identified the body as that of Saita. After registering a case of unnatural death, police sent the body for postmortem, the sources added.
