Patna: A week after storming BJP’s Bankipur bastion by winning the bypoll in Bihar, Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor on Tuesday announced an employment push for youths of the constituency.
During his first visit to Bankipur post his victory to end the BJP’s 30-year ‘reign’ in Bankipur, Kishor promised to help at least 10,000 youths find jobs over the next one to two years.
He appealed to families with educated but unemployed children to prepare their CVs and submit them to his office.
“I am not travelling anywhere. I am working for you,” Kishor said in response to criticism that he had been away from the constituency for five or six days after his election victory.
Thanking voters for reposing their trust in him while touring the constituency, Kishor said he would use his network of contacts with companies and individuals across the country to help eligible youths secure private-sector jobs.
Kishor, however, emphasised that he could not promise government employment and said some young people may initially have to move outside Bihar for work.
He added that the situation will change if Jan Suraaj Party comes to power in Bihar, in which case the focus will be on creating enough employment opportunities within the state so that young people do not have to leave Bihar in search of jobs.
After Jan Suraaj Party drew a blank in the Assembly elections last November, Kishor scripted the party’s maiden electoral victory, defeating BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha by 19,324 votes in the high-stakes Bankipur bypoll.
The constituency was under the control of current BJP president Nitin Nabin for nearly 20 years, preceded by the 15-year stint of his father Kishor Prasad Sinha.
