Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Thursday apprehended a senior assistance of ESI Dispensary, Rourkela, while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.
The accused has been identified as Abhiram Sahu.
According to Vigilance sources, he had allegedly demanded the illegal gratification from a person injured in an accident to process his medical reimbursement claim under ESI scheme. Since the injured was a poor man, he expressed his inability to pay the amount. But Sahu insisted on Rs 10,000 bribe to get the work done. Following which, the injured narrated the harassment to Vigilance officials, who then laid a trap to nab Sahu.
Sahu was caught red-handed and the entire bribe money was seized from him.
While a case has been registered against him under Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption (amendment) Act, 2018, simultaneous searches are on at two locations linked to him to ascertain whether he had accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
