Bhubaneswar: Senior Congress leader and former minister Ganeswar Behera resigned from the primary membership of the party on Tuesday.
In his resignation letter to Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Sarat Pattanayak, he thanked the party for giving him opportunity to serve the people of Odisha as an MLA and Congress worker.
Amid an intense tussle over ticket in BJD for Kendrapada Assembly seat, there was speculation about the possibility of the party nominating Ganeswar from the constituency as its candidate. He too had told the media that well-wishers and voters of his constituency have been urging him to join the BJD.
In 2019, Shashi Bhusan Behera of BJD had won the seat by defeating Ganeswar by a margin of 6320 votes. Ganeswar was in the fry in the previous two polls too and lost to BJD candidates.
