Bhubaneswar: Senior IAS officer Manoj Kumar Sahoo was on Saturday appointed as the Private Secretary to the Chief Minister of Odisha.
The 2006 batch IAS is currently serving as the Special Secretary to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
“The post of Private Secretary to the Odisha Chief Minister is declared equivalent in status and responsibility to the post of Special Secretary provided in the IAS cadre of the State,” a notification issued by the General Administration and Public Grievance department said.
Last month, Sahoo had been appointed Special Secretary to the Chief Minister.
Earlier in November 2024, the Centre had approved his inter-cadre deputation to Odisha for three years.
Sahoo is an Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre IAS officer and was then serving as deputy election commissioner in EC office in Delhi.
A native of Singapur village of Balikuda block in Jagatsinghpur district, Sahoo did his BSc from Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneswar.
The senior Odia IAS officer was appointed as Deputy Election Commissioner in November 2022. He was the first Odia to hold the position.
From 2016 to 2019, he was private secretary to Jual Oram, when the latter was Union Minister for Tribal Affairs in Narendra Modi’s first term as the Prime Minister. He also served in the Ministry of Jal Shakti in different positions. He was the the DC in districts of West Siang and Kurung Kumey in Arunachal Pradesh. He was the District Magistrate of Dadra Nagar Haveli, Daman and ADM in Diu.
