Visakhapatnam: Katulu Ravi Kumar bagged the gold for Odisha and set a new national record at the ongoing Senior National Weightlifting Championship at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday.
Kumar set the new meet record lifting a total of 342 kg in the snatch, clean and jerk in the 89-kg event.
A native of Berhampur in Ganjam district, Kumar had won three gold medals in 2009 Commonwealth Games held at Penang in Malaysia. In 2010, he had won three gold medals at the New Delhi Commonwealth Games. He had also won three gold medals in senior weightlifting championship held at Bangalore in October 2010. In 2011, he had won three bronze medals in senior weightlifting championship at Tongling in China and a silver at the 2014 Commonwealth Games at Glasgow in the 69 kg division.
Kumar now works with the Indian Army.
