Puri: A senior servitor of Shree Jagannath Temple was allegedly murdered in Odisha’s Puri town amid tight security arrangements for Debasnana Purnima on Wednesday.
As per preliminary information, the incident took place at Rabeni Chhak in Gudiashahi under the jurisdiction of Town Police Station.
The deceased has been identified as Jagannath Dixit, who was working as a supakar sevyata of the Jagannath Temple.
After the bathing rituals of the Lords, Dixit had reportedly gone to the house of a man and his body was later found in a pool of blood in the locality.
Meanwhile, a CCTV footage purportedly showing a man dumping Dixit’s body has surfaced.
The senior servitor’s murder amid in broad daylight and deployment of heavy police force has shocked and surprised everyone.
After getting information about the incident, Puri City DSP Prasant Kumar Sahoo along with the Town Police Station IIC visited the spot and launched an investigation.
A scientific team also examined the site and collected samples for test, while Dixit’s body was sent to the Puri District Headquarter Hospital (DHH) for post-mortem.
Puri SP Vinit Agarwal told reporters that the crime appeared to have taken place due to personal enmity and the CCTV visuals have collected as part of investigation. The exact cause of the incident will be ascertained after thorough investigation, he added.
