Kolkata: Amid punches and counter-punches by principal protagonists ahead of the eight-phase assembly polls, West Bengal’s ruling party has made a sensational accusation – that Election Commission’s West Bengal in-charge Sudip Jain is “tilted towards the BJP”.
Not just that, Trinamool Congress (TMC) went a step further and demanded the removal of Deputy Election Commissioner Jain as the person in charge of the state Election Commission.
“We have serious doubt that Shri Sudip Jain would be impartial and his approach towards all parties would not be equal. He is tilted towards the BJP, the reason why all his actions were favourable towards the party. We have no confidence in Sri Sudip Jain,” senior TMC leader and Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien wrote to the Chief Electoral Office of West Bengal.
“In light of the above, we call upon you to withdraw Sudip Jain an in-charge of on behalf of Election Commission of India for West Bengal Assembly Election, 2021.”
Two days ago, TMC had complained to the Election Commission about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photograph being used on COVID-19 vaccination certificates, questioning whether it was in violation of the model code of conduct which has already come into effect.
