Mumbai: The BSE Sensex hit an all-time high of 40,000 points on Thursday as early trend indicated a led for BJP-led NDA in over 340 Lok Seats.
At 10.37 a.m., the Sensex was trading 914.68 points or 2.34 per cent, higher at 40,024.89. The Nifty too jumped by 259.40 points or 2.21 per cent to 11,997.30.
Amid market euphoria, the rupee also appreciated 26 paise to 69.40 against the US dollar in opening trade.
The 30-share index zoomed over 2 per cent to hit an intra-day high of 39,901.59. Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty too spurted more than 2 per cent to touch a record of 11,968.95.
Sensex managed to close 140 points higher on Wednesday amid record volatility as fresh nervousness gripped the market ahead of the general election results.
