New Delhi: Police on Tuesday detained a 13-year-old boy of Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut for allegedly sending a threat mail to Delhi airport, claiming that a bomb had been placed on a Toronto-bound Air Canada flight.
The boy had allegedly sent the hoax mail last week as a “prank” by creating a fake email ID to check if the authorities could track him down. He sent the mail from his phone by using his mother’s wifi connection and immediately deleted the account.
“The teenager saw the hoax bomb threat on Delhi Airport news and was excited but did not tell about the mail to his parents,” NDTV reported quoting Deputy Commissioner of Police, IGI Airport Usha Rangnani.
The boy’s mobile phone has been seized and he is being counselled, he added.
The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) office received an email last Tuesday. The flight was thoroughly checked and when nothing was found, it took off after about 12 hours.
