New Delhi: Jaga-Kalia, the separated conjoined twins, will return to Odisha very soon.
Doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi told mediapersons that since there has been a substantial improvement in the health condition of Jaga and Kalia, there is no need to keep them in the ICU or in the special ward. While Jaga has completely recovered, Kalia, who was earlier given food with a feeding tube, has started taking food through the mouth.
The AIIMS authorities also said that the Odisha government has suggested that they send the twins to Odisha by end of June accompanied by doctors and the nurse presently looking after them. Considering the intense heat wave in Odisha, the twins will be sent by air. The state government has sought a detailed report on their present health condition and treatment, the AIIMS authorities said.
The twins from Milipada village in Kandhamal district were joined at the head. They were successfully separated in a 11-hour marathon surgery by a team of 30 specialists from neurosurgery, neuro-anaesthesia and plastic surgery departments on October 25, 2017.
A month after the surgery, on November 26, 2017, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had met the separated conjoined twins and prayed for their speedy recovery.
He had thanked Prof Randeep Guleria and Prof Ashok Mohapatra and the entire team of doctors for performing an incredible feat and for their untiring efforts to save the precious lives of the two little children and assured the AIIMS director necessary support for their treatment.
