Bhubaneswar: The absconding driver of the Hyva truck, involved in a series of accidents on NH-16 near Palasun leading to the death of a government engineer, has been arrested.
He has been identified as Soubhagya Ranjan Patra.
According to police sources, the driver was nabbed this morning from Begunia in Khurda district. More than 6 and a half tonnes of load was being carried in the truck due to which he lost control over the vehicle and crashed into two cars.
He has been charged with negligence, reckless driving, overspeeding and carrying goods more than permissible limits.

The engineer, identified as Sumanta Das (36) of Aiginia in Bhubaneswar, died on the spot after the speeding truck rammed the car, following which it got crushed between two heavy vehicles. Das could not survive the impact.
It took Odisha Fire Service personnel almost 30 minutes to retrieve his body from the mangled remains of the car.
