Rourkela: Thieves broke into at least six quarters at Jindal colony in Tensa under Koida block in Rourkela on Wednesday night. The miscreants looted gold jewellery and cash worth several lakh rupees from the quarters, the police said.
According to sources, the officials and workers of the company had gone to their native during a leave when the incident took place. After news about the theft spread, teams from Koida and Tensa police stations arrived at the spot and carried out investigation.
“Despite presence of security personnel, thieves in the remote mining area have stolen articles from six quarters at a time. This is shocking,” a local resident said.
Sources added that there is a strict security system at the gate of the colony. Despite this, the daring theft in several quarters have taken all by surprise and scare.
A case has been registered in this connection and probe is underway, the police said.
