Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cooperative Tassar and Silk Federation Ltd (SERIFED) on Friday despatched 300 kg of Basungapatta, a special type of rope prepared from Mulberry yarn, to Jagannath temple in Puri.
Ranendra Pratap Swain, Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment, Fisheries & Animal Resources, flagged off the vehicle carrying the ropes at the head office of Serifed in Bhubaneswar.
Bhagirathi Nanda, president, SERIFED; Arbinda Padhee, principal secretary, HT&H department; Shovan Krishna Sahu, Director of Textiles & Handloom, Odisha; Saroj Kumar Patel, MD, SERIFED; Purushottam Dash, secretary, SERIFED and other officers of HT&H department were present.
Amlan, the exclusive outlet of the SERIFED, has been providing Basungapatta to Jagannath Temple since long.
Basungapatta is a special type of rope prepared from Mulberry yarns as per the requirement of the temple administration.
The Basungapatta is used for preparation of “Vijaya Dori”, ‘Paita’, ‘Rakhis’ and other works of the Lords. It is used during the Gupta Niti after Debasnahan Purnima and in Rath Yatra every year. SERIFED supplied Basungapatta worth Rs 33,000 in 2000-01 and Rs 12,000 in 2022-23.
