Puri: The Bhitara Sevayat Nijog of Jagannath Temple has given permission to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to begin repair work of the Jaya Vijaya Dwar.
This was decided at a meeting presided over by chief administrator of Shri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Pradip Jena on Thursday evening in the presence of the ASI officials and engineers.
“Specific instructions have been given to the ASI authorities to ensure that the rituals of the Lords are not hindered during the repair of the Jaya Vijaya Dwar. It has been decided that the repair work will be stopped during the rituals,” secretary of the Garabadu Nijog, Rajat Pratihari told mediapersons.
He further said the ASI will stop the repair work from Snana Yatra till Ratha Yatra. “However, the ASI will expedite the repair work a day after the Ratha Yatra till the Aadharapana rituals of the Lords.
It may be mentioned that the ASI on April 24 had informed the Orissa High Court that it will take up the repair work of the Jaya Vijaya Dwar of the Jagannath temple from May 1.
The ASI, in an affidavit, had apprised the court of that it will take at least a month complete the repair work of the temple to which the court directed to complete it by May 31.
The court had directed the ASI to take up the repair work of the Jaya Vijay Dwar with hanging plates to ensure smooth darshan of the Lords by the devotees.
