Bhubaneswar: The special committee constituted by Odisha Government to study the functioning of the Legislative Councils will visit Bihar on Thursday for setting up of a Vidhan Parishad (Legislative Council) in the state.
The committee will be led by BJD leader and Commerce and Transport minister Nrushingha Charan Sahu. The other members of the committee are Manohar Randhari (BJD), Pramila Mallik (BJD), Bhujabal Majhi (Congress), Nitish Gangadeb (BJP) and secretary, Parliamentary Affairs.
Sources, however, said that Majhi and Gangadeb will not visit Bihar.
“The committee will submit a report after studying the functioning of the Legislative Councils of Bihar,” Sahu told mediapersons here on Wednesday.
He said the committee will also visit Andhra Pradesh after Bihar.
The committee which had visited Maharashtra and Karnataka in 2015 to learn about the way of formation and functioning of the Legislative Councils has submitted its report to the state government.
The first meeting of the committee on Vidhan Parishad was convened on January 19, 2015.
The state government has initiated the exercise to set up a Legislative Council after considering demands by various organizations.
States like Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh have Legislative Councils.
