Khurda: The police on Friday busted a gang of dacoits by arresting seven of its members at OCC Chhak on National Highway-16 in Khurda district.
Acting on a tip-off that a group of dacoits were planning to commit a robbery in a jewellery shop, the police team conducted a raid at OCC Chhak and managed to nab them.
However, other members of the gang managed to flee during the raid.
The arrested have been identified as Sujit Behera, Suresh Sahu, Dibyankara Gajendra, Nihar Ranjan Samantaray, Saroj Kahalsingh, Tapas Mangaraj and Altabh Hussain.
“Two mousers, 10 rounds of bullets and 17 live bombs were seized from the criminals’ possession. These persons are involved in various anti-social activities in Khurda town. They also have links with the mines mafia and used to take contract from them for doing their work,” Khurda SP Dipti Ranjan Ray informed.
