Balasore/Khurda/Baripada: At least nine persons were killed and as many sustained injuries in separate lightning strikes in Odisha on Friday.
The first incident was reported from Balasore district, where two persons died after being struck by lightning at Barunagadia under Basta block in Balasore district. The duo was working in an agricultural field when the mishap took place.
Similarly, an elderly woman died and a girl was injured in lightning strike at Singakhunta and Srijung villages of the district.
In Mayurbhanj, two persons were killed in similar incidents of lightning strikes at Badasala and Maheswarpur villages.
Another person died and five others suffered grievously injuries after being struck by lightning at Maheswarpur village under Sadar police limits in the same district.
Besides, a youth was also killed by lightning strike while working in a farmland at Chunatiha village under Udala police limits while a girl student sustained critical injuries at Padmalochan High School in the same district.
Apart from those, lightning claimed the life of a youth and injured two others at Manikapur in Khurda district.
