Seven Migrant Odia Workers Ride Home On Bicycles From Raipur

Boudh: Seven migrant Odia workers of Bhapur area in Khurda district, who work in a private company in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur, arrived in Janhapank area in Boudh on their bicycles on Thursday evening.

Talking to mediapersons, the migrant workers said that the company had closed following the nationwide lockdown in the wake of COVID-19 outbreak.

“We had no money to stay there as the company held up two months’ salary. Finding no other way, we decided to leave Raipur for our native place on bicycles that the company had provided us. We left Raipur on May 18. We have already covered miles and will reach our native place in a couple of days,” the migrant workers said.

No district administration arranged food or shelter as they pedalled across different districts, they alleged.

. They are expected to reach Khurda on Friday via Charichak-Dashpalla-Nayagarh.
