Sambalpur: Following heavy rainfall in the upper catchments of Mahanadi, the Hirakud dam authorities on Monday opened seven more gates to release the floodwater.
The water level of the dam recorded till 9.30 am on Monday was 620.87 feet while the inflow and outflow of the floodwater were 1,75,371 cusecs and 2,37,910 cusecs per second respectively.
Currently, the floodwater is being discharged through 14 sluice gates of the dam.
On Thursday (August 15), 20 gates were opened and 10 of them closed the following day. Five sluice gates of the reservoir were closed on Saturday. The dam authorities had opened two more gates on Sunday evening, following which water was discharged from seven gates.
As told by the principal secretary, Water Resources, Pradip Jena earlier, the water level of the dam has to remain within 620 feet by August 21 as per the Rule Curve.
