Baripada: The Forest Department officials on Friday arrested seven poachers at Dubigarh Rajarani pond area in Mayurbhanj district and seized 8 kg venison from them.
They have been identified as Sabala Tudu (32), Cham Soren (28), Narayan Murmu (28), Bhaj Marandi (29), Mirza Soren (35), Buka Marandi (60) and Girish Soren (50).
On receiving a tip-off regarding movement of poachers in the forest area, a team of forest personnel conducted a raid and nabbed them.
“Venison of barking deer and five country-made guns have been recovered from the poachers. They had been active in Similipal core region for the last few years,” a forest official informed.
The accused will be forwarded to court today, the official added.
