Srinagar: Seven soldiers died and 19 others were injured, some seriously, when the vehicle transporting them fell into the Shyok river in Ladakh on Friday.
The vehicle fell 50-60 feet into the river in Turtuk sector after skidding off the road.
“A party of 26 soldiers was moving from the Transit Camp in Partapur to a forward location in Sub Sector Hanif. At approximately 9 am, around 25 km from Thoise, the vehicle skidded off the road and fell into Shyok river, resulting in injuries to all occupants,” an army spokesperson said.
The soldiers were evacuated to a field hospital in Partapur.
In the evening, the injured soldiers were shifted to the Army Command Hospital at Chandimandir in Haryana’s Panchkula district.
