New Delhi: Notorious air pollution in the Indian Capital turned for the worse as fog enveloped the city on Saturday.
Consequently, several Delhi-bound flights were delayed and at least 18 flights diverted to cities like Jaipur, Lucknow, Ahmedabad and Amritsar due to poor visibility between 7.30 am and 10.30 am.
SpiceJet Airlines alerted their passengers with a post on X.
“Weather Update: Due to bad weather in Delhi (DEL), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights might be affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status via http://bit.ly/2tG9xBx,” stated SpiceJet.
A Vistara Airlines spokesperson said the airline had to divert two of its flights due to low visibility at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. While flight UK906 from Ahmedabad to Delhi returned to the Gujarat city, flight UK954 from Mumbai to Delhi was re-routed to Jaipur.
Delhi’s overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of 368 on Saturday was of ‘very poor’ category. Fog worsened the situation.
Regional Meteorological Centre (RMD), New Delhi, had predicted moderate fog in the morning with a minimum temperature of 12 degrees Celsius and a maximum temperature of 25 degrees Celsius with a very low possibility of rain.
