Bhubaneswar: In view of the severe cold wave warning issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Odisha government on Saturday asked the District Collectors to stay on alert and take necessary measures.
In a letter, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradip Kumar Jena has directed the Collectors to circulate an advisory to all the people at the block, panchayat and tehsil level to protect themselves and livestock from the intense cold.
He has also directed the Collectors to make provisions for homeless people in schools and other public buildings during the night hours.
The IMD, in a mid-day bulletin, issued severe cold wave warning for Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Deogarh districts in the next 24 hours.
Apart from these five districts, the national weather agency also issued intense cold wave warning for north interior Odisha, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Boudh, Sonepur and Balangir districts on December 29, north interior Odisha, Balasore, Cuttack, Sonepur, Boudh and Balangir districts on December 30 and Angul, Boudh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Sonepur and Balangir on December 31.
