Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange warnings for three districts of Odisha till 7.37 pm on Friday.
Severe thunderstorms, lightning, hail with surface wind of 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph and heavy to moderate rain may occur at isolated plac
es in Bhadrak district. Similar conditions with wind speed of 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph may also occur in the districts of Cuttack and Khurda, including the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, in the next 2-3 hours.
People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.
The MeT office had earlier warned of intense thunderstorm activity with wind speed of 50-60 kmph in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Balasore, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur on June 5. Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (40-50 kmph) may also occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in the districts of Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh.
